prof. FRANCESCO MONOPOLI – pianist
‘ I like his way of thinking the Music ‘ said about him the conductor C. M. Giulini, after an his performance of Diabelli Variations of Beethoven.
Born in Barletta, he graduated with distinctions at Bari Conservatory of Music, studying with the Argentine pianist H. Pell (a pupil of S. Lorenzi, V. Vitale and A. Benedetti Michelangeli).
After he had advanced studies with M. Marvulli, S. Perticaroli, and M. Curcio Diamond. He performed more than 400 piano recitals in Italy, France, Germany, Taiwan, Japan, Russian, Spain, Albania, Romania and England, and he played as soloist with many important Italian and foreign Orchestras . He won several First Prizes in National and International Piano Competitions and in competitive examination for Piano teaching at the Music Institute of Teramo.
He was Director of Bari Conservatory of Music from 2010 to 2013.
He is actually professor of Piano at the State Conservatory ‘ U. Giordano’ in Foggia.
He recorded performances for the Italian National Radio, for the RAI television and various CDs in Italy, Romania and Taiwan.
He taught in public Master Classes in France (Ecole Normale), Taiwan (NTU and in several Campus), Japan, Korea, Russia, Albania and at the Conservatory of Bari about ‘ The Concerto for Piano and Orchestra’ .
He is frequently member of juries of National and International Piano Competitions (up to now in over 80 competitions including the Gina Bachauer, Contests “Chopin” of Rome and Taipei, ‘F. Poulenc’ Competition, Taiwan International Piano Competition, the Competition Int. the Composers of Spain in Madrid, Chopin Asia Competition in Tokyo, etc.…).
He has a great chamber music experience, and performed many concerts in Duo , Trio , Quartet and Quintet in Italy, Germany, Romania , Spain and France, with famous chamber groups like Pfeifer Quartet, Accademia Quartet and Syrinx Trio and famous soloists like the flautists Chen Li-Ming and Antonio Amenduni, the violinists Franco Mezzena and Chia Chun Lu and the cellist Giovanna Buccarella.
He is graduated in Composition (a pupil of O. De Lillo, F. Sarno and T. Procaccini) and he studied as Orchestra Conductor with N. Samale. He wrote various compositions for piano, trio, chamber Orchestra and voice and Orchestra.
He is President of ’Cultura e Musica – G. Curci’ Musical Association since 1984 and Artistic Director of the International Piano Competitions ’ Mauro Paolo Monopoli Prize ‘ and ‘ Città di Barletta ’ and of the International Concert Season ( that is currently at the 26th Edition).
For his artistic and organizing activity he was awarded the ’ Disfida di Barletta’ Prize in 1993, the ’Telethon BNL’ Prize in 1994 and ‘ Opened Theatres ‘ Prize in 1999 as promoter and organizer of the most important musical events in Apulia Region ( Italy ).
